Riverwalk, also known as the Fort Lauderdale Riverwalk, is along New River in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Its length is over a mile and goes from the Sailboat Bend neighborhood to near the Stranahan House. It is in the former club district in downtown Fort Lauderdale. Two main streets run through the district, Las Olas Boulevard and Himmarshee Street. In addition to the bars and clubs, there used to be restaurants, cafes, and a movie theater. It is being redeveloped into a residential area.
Spanning the banks of the New River is Riverwalk Park of Fort Lauderdale, a waterfront green space right off famous Las Olas Boulevard. Along this historic bank, Native Americans once traded their handmade goods. As a result, this bustling area came to represent Fort Lauderdale’s birthplace. Today, pedestrians enjoy a lush tropical landscape, winding walkways, and many shops along Florida’s “most beautiful mile.”
Most don’t know that the Riverwalk is more than a public park. It’s also a nonprofit initiative to unite the city. Hosting diverse events, the Riverwalk harnesses art, history, entertainment, and local businesses to create a better city!

There are several ways to explore the Riverwalk, including walking tours, Segway tours, or sightseeing cruises with operators such as Jungle Queen Riverboat. Those boat rides will cover the Riverwalk and glimpses of Millionaire’s Row, a stretch of luxe houses and their attendant mega yachts that run from Tarpon Bend to the Intracoastal Waterway.
9/11 Monument
The monument displays a PATH rail segment from the World Trade Center wreckage tracks. It is in an uplifted position held by granite support pillars, which refers to the solid bedrock of Manhattan that supports its massive buildings. The granite support pillars are in pairs, joined by an internally illuminated acrylic spine that suggests the hope of light emerging from the darkness. The monument’s base will carry the memorial’s storyline, and light will be included to ensure the monument is respectfully lit at night. The artifact location is central to Riverwalk and provides visibility from all vantage points.
